What size are porch columns?

A porch post is large, gorgeous, and about twice the size of a typical porch post, averaging 10 inches in diameter. This is often the architectural element of choice for larger porches. However, keep in mind that the columns come in a variety of sizes, making them incredibly versatile.

How thick should porch posts be?

Porch columns and porch posts are usually made of wood, fiberglass, vinyl, aluminum, stone, or other materials. In fact, you can use almost any material for root columns, as long as they meet the load-bearing requirements.

How far apart do porch posts need to be?
Common Post Spacing Generally, the maximum spacing for 4-by-6 beams is 6 feet between 4-by-4 posts. If you’re moving up to a 4 x 8, you’re usually allowed to span up to 10 feet between the posts. It can span 4 by 10, typically up to 12 feet between posts.

Should I use pressure treated wood for porch columns?
When it comes to choosing the right wood for your porch columns, be sure to choose a wood that has been pressure treated and is KDAT (kiln dried after treatment). Pressure-treated and KDAT wood are better options than regular wood, as their chemistry makes them resistant to decay. Don’t just burn the wood.

If they are plastic and hollow, they have no chance of pregnancy. Wood and solid, there is a chance. they’re probably not 85% sustainable, as nearly everyone in the 80s involuntarily added artificial pillars everywhere.

Are pillars load bearing?
